Meals and Snacks in Care Settings
If your child attends a participating child care center, family child care home, afterschool program, or if you or a family member receives services at a homeless shelter or senior day care center, you may have access to free nutritious meals and snacks through CACFP. This federal program ensures that eligible children and adults in care settings across O’ahu and Kaua’i receive proper nourishment that meets federal nutrition standards. Through our partnership with the State Department of Education’s Hawaiian Child Nutrition Programs, we work to make sure nutritious food is available where you and your ‘ohana spend time during the day. Contact your care provider to learn if they participate in CACFP and how you can access these important nutrition services for yourself or your keiki.

SUN Meals
Summer Meals and Snacks for Kids
If you have children or teens aged 18 and under, they can receive free nutritious meals and snacks throughout the summer at schools, parks, and other neighborhood locations through SUN Meals. This federal Summer Food Service Program ensures your keiki continue eating well when school is out, merging summer activity programs with meal service to provide consistent nutrition during break periods. Every child aged 18 and under can enjoy SUN Meals at no cost, and eligible school-aged children may also receive SUN Bucks for additional food support. No registration or documentation is required — simply visit participating locations during meal times to ensure your children have access to the nutrition they need for healthy summer growth and development.
Nearly 1 in 3 Hawaiʻi households are struggling with food insecurity.
In 34% of households with children, one or more keiki are food insecure.
