Kūpuna Programs

Hawaiʻi Foodbank offers a variety of Kūpuna Programs aimed at enriching the lives of our seniors by providing them with greater access to safe and healthy food.
Many kūpuna face barriers to accessing the food they need — putting them at a higher risk of facing hunger.

Hawaiʻi Foodbank is here to provide older adults living on fixed incomes with free food, more access to fresh, healthy produce and other benefits to support an active lifestyle and healthy aging.

Senior Food Box Program

The Senior Food Box Program, also known as the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), provides monthly food boxes with groceries full of key nutrients, such as Vitamins A and C, calcium and iron. Boxes contain foods such as fruits and vegetables, canned meat, rice, cheese, cereal, juice, peanut butter, non-fat dry milk, and more. This program is provided in partnership with the State of Hawaiʻi and the Office of Community Services.

Older adults aged 60 or older must meet income guidelines and apply to receive monthly food boxes

Kūpuna Fresh

Kūpuna Fresh currently operates in conjunction with the Senior Food Box Program in order to provide more fresh fruits and vegetables to seniors in need of food assistance. In addition to their monthly Senior Food Box, Kūpuna Fresh offers participating seniors the opportunity to receive an additional bag of produce each month, filled with fresh fruits and vegetables — with a focus on providing produce that is culturally meaningful and easy to prepare.

Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program

Hawaiʻi Foodbank distributes coupons seasonally that kūpuna can use to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables, honey and herbs at local farmers’ from July to October through the Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program. This program is provided in partnership with the State of Hawaiʻi and the Office of Community Services.

SNAP Assistance

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps older adults and other individuals by providing monthly funds to help pay for groceries. With SNAP, participants can shop at most grocery stores and many farmers markets with an EBT card, free up cash for other essentials, and keep benefits flowing with recertifications.

Hawaiʻi Foodbank’s SNAP outreach team is here to walk you through every step of the eligibility, application and recertification process.
