Government Shutdown Support

If you’ve been affected by the federal government shutdown, Hawai‘i Foodbank is here to help.

With nearly 1 in 3 households in Hawai‘i already facing food insecurity, the shutdown adds new urgency for families, federal employees, active-duty military members and contractors who may be experiencing paycheck disruptions or distributions in other benefits and services. Whether you’re navigating a temporary furlough or facing longer-term uncertainty, you don’t have to go through it alone. Hawai‘i Foodbank and our partners are actively sourcing more food and expanding support to meet the growing need.

If you or someone you know needs help accessing food, we have a variety of existing food assistance opportunities, along with pop-up food distributions, available nearly every day of the week. We are so grateful for the ongoing support of our donors and to the Hawai’i State Government for coming together to make sure that no one in Hawai‘i goes hungry.

SNAP Updates and Resources

We also recognize the uncertainty surrounding the release of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in November. If you rely on SNAP, please know that additional support is available.  You are not alone — Hawai‘i Foodbank, together with our government and community partners, is committed to ensuring that you and your ‘ohana have access to the food and resources you need.  Here’s what we know right now:

All SNAP recipients will receive an additional $250 on their EBT cards. These funds are expected to go live by November 14.

A $100M rental and utility relief program has been established for families with children at or below 300% of the federal poverty level.

For Oʻahu, Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island the program is being administered by Catholic Charities of Hawaiʻi and you can apply here.

For Maui County it is be being administered by Maui Economic Opportunity and you can apply here.

A $6.1M fund has been established through OHA to support its beneficiaries. Details about the program will be announced here.

Please see below for more information on our regular, ongoing food assistance opportunities.
