The State of Food Insecurity in Hawai‘i 2024-2025 study, conducted by the Hawai‘i Foodbank, highlights a significant issue for many of our students. It found that 53% of young adults aged 18-29 are affected by food insecurity, with 58% of those currently enrolled in higher education experiencing similar challenges. Throughout the years, the Hawai‘i Foodbank has supplied food to campus food pantries across the University of Hawai‘i System. Donating to the Hawai‘i Foodbank directly supports our students and others in need within the community.
As one of the largest state contributors to this annual event, UH contributed over $54,000 in cash and more than 5,600 pounds of food (providing more than 122,000 meals). The UH ʻohana truly made a difference!
The Foodbank’s goal this year is to raise 53,000 pounds of food and $168,000. The top 5 most wanted items are financial contributions, canned meats/tuna, canned meals, canned vegetables or fruits, and rice (5-10 lb. bags).
Let’s unite to support our neighbors in need. Every contribution, whether big or small, makes a difference, and your generosity can change lives. Together, we can build a stronger community. I encourage everyone who can to lend a helping hand.
Thank you for your generous support of the UH annual event for the State Employees Food Drive. Your past contributions have made a significant impact, and we are grateful for your ongoing support!
Mahalo for partnering with the University of Hawaiʻi and Hawaiʻi Foodbank in the fight against hunger. During this critical time of need, your donation gives more than just food. For keiki, kūpuna and families across Hawaiʻi — your support provides courage, hope and aloha. By making a gift today, your donation goes a long way. Hawaiʻi Foodbank can stretch your dollars further to support safe food access for all members of our ʻohana. Just $10 helps provide food for more than 20 meals.
